These Banana Bread Brownies are super moist, tender, sweet, and flavorful. Made with mashed bananas, sour cream, and chopped walnuts, they are topped with a smooth brown butter frosting for a delicious dessert.

  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 12 servings

Ingredients

Scale

For the banana bread brownies:

  • 1 ½ cups sugar
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 2 eggs, at room temperature
  • 3 bananas, mashed
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup walnuts, chopped

For the frosting:

  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 tablespoons milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Grease a 9 x 13-inch baking pan with non-stick cooking spray.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the sugar, sour cream, softened butter, and eggs using an electric mixer. Beat until well combined.
  3. Add the mashed bananas and vanilla extract. Mix until combined.
  4. Add the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt. Mix until combined, then stir in the chopped walnuts.
  5. Pour the banana batter into the prepared baking pan. Bake for 20–30 minutes, or until done. Check by inserting a toothpick into the center; if it comes out clean, the brownies are ready.
  6. Remove the pan from the oven and let the brownies cool slightly.
  7. To prepare the frosting, melt the butter in a saucepan and heat until it turns medium brown.
  8. Turn off the heat and add the powdered sugar, 1 cup at a time, stirring until combined after each addition.
  9. Add the milk and vanilla extract. Mix until combined.
  10. Pour the frosting over the brownies and spread it evenly.
  11. Let the Banana Bread Brownies cool completely, then cut and serve.

Notes

  • Use a toothpick inserted into the center to check whether the brownies are done; it should come out clean.
  • Allow the brownies to cool completely after frosting before cutting and serving.
