  • Yield: 16 servings

Ingredients

Scale

For the Brownies

  • 1 stick unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoons coffee extract or 1 tablespoon instant coffee
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder

For the Coffee Frosting

  • 1 1/2 teaspoons instant coffee granules
  • 2–4 tablespoons heavy whipping cream
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 cups powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Prepare an 8-inch baking dish with nonstick spray, or line it with parchment paper and spray with nonstick spray.
  2. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter in the microwave.
  3. In a large bowl, add the melted butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla. Stir until well combined.
  4. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until combined.
  5. Spread the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30–35 minutes.
  6. Allow the brownies to cool before preparing the frosting.
  7. Mix the instant coffee into the heavy cream and set aside.
  8. In a large bowl, beat the butter until light and fluffy.
  9. Slowly add the powdered sugar, continuing to mix until everything is well combined.
  10. Add 2 tablespoons of the coffee cream mixture and mix well. Continue adding cream 1 tablespoon at a time until the desired consistency is reached.
  11. Frost the cooled brownies, slice, and enjoy.

Notes

  • The frosting uses 2–4 tablespoons of heavy whipping cream. Add it gradually, 1 tablespoon at a time after the initial 2 tablespoons, until the desired consistency is reached.
